Myth- A face mask can protect you from COVID-19.

Special respirators (N-95) greatly help to reduce the spread of virus. These are used by the medical staff treating infected people.

Myth- The virus was created and released from the lab.

No evidence proves that the virus is man-made. Such viruses basically occur naturally in bats, pigs and birds and are passed to humans.

Myth- Getting the products shipped from China can infect you.

According to WHO, it is safe to get the products or letters shipped from China. Researchers have found that coronaviruses don’t survive for very long on the surfaces. So, in no case you can get infected by Coronavirus from a package that was in transit for days or weeks.

Myth- Coronavirus spreads from non-veg food products.

Coronavirus is an infection that spreads from person to person. Consuming non-vegetarian food products isn't the cause. All kinds of meats should be properly washed before consumption.

Myth- The virus does not prevails in areas with hot weather conditions.

The AIIMS Director does not agrees to intensity of COVID-19 tapering down with rise in temperatures. He said “The impact of the virus is as serious in hot-humid weather conditions of Singapore as in the colder environment of European countries.” It is better to stay safe than blindly believing in these myths.

Myth- Vitamin C supplements prevent Coronavirus infections.  

Researchers have yet to find that Vitamin C supplements can render people immune to COVID-19 infection. Vitamin C is definitely responsible for maintaining healthy immune system but an over-dose to avoid infections does not helps to avoid infection from Coronaviruses.

Myth- Only older people and young children are at risks of getting infected.

Like other Coronaviruses, COVD-19 can also infect the person of any age group.

Myth- Covid-19 is definite for causing deaths.

The symptoms of the virus might be little or severe but curable. If you follow the safe habits, you can avoid catching infections. And even if you suffer, it is curable with the right treatment. About 78,285 have already been cured of the infection.

Myth- Hand-dryers can kill the virus.

Hand-dryers cannot kill coronaviruses. But washing your hands regularly with soap or handwash and using sanitizers can lower the risks of getting infected.

Myth- Protection by using gargling bleach.

Gargling bleach in no case can protect you from catching the infection. But might turn to be hazardous for your health.

  • Try not to touch your face.
  • Use sanitizers frequently to keep your hands clean.
  • Use tissue while sneeze or cough then dispose it. In case of no tissues, sneeze or cough in the crook of your elbow.
  • Avoid close contact with sick people.
  • Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces. Use standard cleaning sprays and wipes.
  • Wash your hands regularly using soaps or hand-wash.
