Lucknow University Turns 100: Gets A Makeover To Honor It’s Centenary Year

The members of the university have set up a treehouse depicting Covid-19 crisis times, a glittering black and silver entrance, uniform signboards, and other features to mark 100 years of Lucknow University.

The university began its journey as a small school in Canning High School in 1864. After 57 years, this school located in Amin-ud-Daulah, Aminabad was transformed into a university. And now the university has entered into its centenary year. 

The university has kicked off its year-long centenary celebrations with some extraordinary planning. To embrace the 100th year of the institution, the members have set up a treehouse, depicting the pandemic, amidst other marvelous features around both the old and second campus. Also, uniform shining signboards have been put up across the entire premises to assist students and guests in locating the departments or administrative blocks. 

On entering from any gate, you will be able to see “The University of Lucknow” written in silver on black. Well, the special highlight of the makeover remains the “treehouse” in the Fine Arts Block that has been perfectly crafted by the present and graduated students of the university.

Ideal Depiction of Art For The Centenary Year

The treehouse built right in front of the Sculpture Department has been designed using grass, twigs, and, broken and extra branches of trees. Pegged at 8-feet, the tree can accommodate about 10 people. It showcases two individuals during the pandemic crisis- one on the treetop and the other on a lower level having a conversation while maintaining proper social distancing. 

The former university student Ajay Kumar said, “The idea to make this installation was of professor Dharmendra Kumar of the sculpture department. We took around 20 days to complete it and make our campus look beautiful in its centenary year.”

By the 100th year approaching, the university is all geared up to make alterations and add some beautifications which include- fresh wall arts, installation of LED lights on the newly painted buildings, and live flowering plants instead of artificial decor, and much more. Also, among the features still coming up is the embellishment of pathways and replacement of the non-functional basketball court with green carpeting. The view of an organic farm with several vegetables such as- turnip, spinach, and cabbages makes the campus even more representable.

The university will resort to crowd-funding (the former students and common people) for its 100-year celebrations. However, the itinerary of the celebrations has not yet been finalized. 

The University Invites PM to Centenary Year Grand Event

To make the culmination of the university’s 100-years special, the authorities are planning to hold a grand function on November 25, 2020 (the foundation day). Lucknow University has extended an invitation to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for honoring the centenary year celebrations with his presence.

Various functions will also be organized during the week of the foundation day which will be attended by personalities of national as well as international repute. Also, the convocation will be held during the week. Celebrations will include felicitation of illustrious alumni, the release of a documentary on LU’s 100-year journey, and more.
